Urbanise elegance – this is our Sole goal
A voice of electrified proclamations seeking to communicate through a contemporary platform, SOLE DXB explores a myriad of disciplines to articulate a statement that delves into the deepest confines of what appears to be just a sneaker.
As modernity reigns forth, and the world extrapolates towards visionary definitions of style, the range of expressionism has expanded exponentially. SOLE DXB strives for a genuine exploration and understanding of the sneaker, and the mirage of ideas interlaced within them.
Fabricated by three perceptive and intuitive individuals with an eye for craftsmanship, Hussain Moloobhoy, Joshua Cox, and Kris Balerite strategically orchestrated an innovative platform for sneaker connoisseurs in the Middle East.
Initially launched February of 2011 with an event in Dubai, SOLE pioneered an unconventional platform to inspire interpretation, critique, and awareness of assorted arts that impact the sneaker culture; design, arts, music, skate, and basketball. The foundational launch was executed with detailed precision and intricacy to imbue creative freedom.
An intellectual and playful take on the sneaker obsession that gaily possesses enthusiasts, SOLE fuses offbeat and elegant for a charming aesthetic to articulate each individual’s voice. The unique stage, metaphorically speaking, serves as a locale for sneaker aficionados to communicate their idiosyncratic perspectives and inspirations, their muses and catalysts for each distinctive standpoint. New trends emerge, and captivate “sneaker-heads” under the lively stronghold of SOLE. Avid collectors, devotees, bloggers, artists, urban trendsetters, boutique owners, and the brands themselves thrive in the SOLE circumstances, nurturing the underlay of the sneaker infatuation that interconnects them all.
Previously showcasing a plurality of sneakers by 12 of the U.A.E’s paramount sneaker-heads, some whose work span 3 decades, in majestic blues, vivid greens, precocious greys, emerging yellows, in all shapes, styles, and sizes, SOLE pursues the future with an esoteric vision of the sneaker, and all that surrounds it.
SOLE has lead forward its mission with intuitive precision, foreseeing the ‘luxury meets urban’ trend. Luxe fabrics swathing an hourglass beauty, sumptuous leather threaded with rich vibrance, silken gloss of a textile, chicly constructed metal adornments, are no longer reserved for above the ankle, rather they seem to be making their way “below the belt”.
Urban culture is no longer restricted within the prototypical archetype it is notorious for, but has engendered an entirely new arena in the last decade. This arena has a Charlotte Gainsbourg or even Casiraghi wearing a pair of high-tops, Carine Roitfield sporting a flat brimmed cap, and if Rhett Butler were real, he might even be rocking a pair of Maison Martin Margiela sneakers. Fantasy and reality are intertwining in a way that is mystical and absurdly real.
The movement of upscale urban panache stems from several renegading artists in their own right – Jeremy Scott for Adidas Originals, Hussain Chalayan & Alexander Mcqueen for Puma, Kanye West & Marc Jacobs for the Louis Vuitton “Don” to name a few. Veritable Picassos of our generation, these architects of fashion have done just that – fashioned a movement that fetors of politics, beauty, and social justice. Compressing the polarized gap between two seemingly opposite realms of society and fashion is yet another reality of this movement.
Isabel Marant’s Beckket high–top sneakers are driving fashionistas and sneaker-heads into a state of fanatic unhinged fashion lust. Luxe brands Lanvin, Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Kris Van Assche, and Yohji Yamamoto are true game changers, and have reached into obscurity and created sneakers that are anything but obscure - true works of craftsmanship as only true artists can create. An initial prod and gentle push of luxury products towards the urban arena has escalated into a full-blown onslaught.
The urbanity of the sneaker culture has coalesced with high fashion giving birth to a lifestyle that breeds new opportunities for enthusiasts, designers - the very essence of SOLE. There are limitless opportunities that cast away preconceived notions of what the sneaker is, and what it encapsulates.
Deflect boredom, inspire rebellion, rouse genius, make ugly beautiful, urbanize elegance – this is our SOLE goal.
