A series of video portraits

–––

Written & Directed by
Amirah Tajdin

To all of you that made it out to our screening of Raw Metropolis and the Sole photography exhibition, thank you for all the love and support. Was great to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too.

Big shout out to the entire cast and crew of the film. Working with Amirah and Wafa was a proper joy, and we hope this is the beginning of more things to come.

Thank you to the d3 team for their tireless support, and to The Mine for helping to make this happen.

Lastly, for those of you that couldn't make it to the screening... all is forgiven. Watch the full film here. We hope you enjoy it.

On to the next one.

Raw Metropolis is a short documentary that explores how Dubai as a future city is finding its identity through the stylistic expressions of its residents and visitors. Written and directed by Amirah Tajdin of Seven Thirty Films, this series of video portraits make up a film that documents the influence of street style, amidst the vistas of one of the world's newest urban centers, the city of Dubai.

The portraits were filmed during Sole DXB, that took place over two days in November 2014 - the regions leading annual lifestyle and street culture event which serves to expose all facets of the citys' growing urban culture through footwear, fashion and street art. It was filmed at the Dubai Design District, which served as the event's backdrop.

Guests of the festival, the festivals' founders and festival revelers are all featured in a series of portrait interviews set in the backseat of a car that weaves through geometrically abstract and stylized shots of cityscapes, spaces and buildings that are juxtaposed against the interviewees who give their take on what street culture, style, life & technology means to them.

What you stand on is what you stand for.

Dubai is known for a number of things, but street culture isn't one of them. It's not that it doesn't exist - you just have to look a little harder to find it.
