“MY ART CAN BE ADDED TO ANYTHING”
To celebrate the launch of Reebok’s first-ever Fit Hub 3.0 store in the UAE, Reebok has collaborated with the notorious sneaker artist, Troy Cole, commonly known as Kickasso.
Traveling from Los Angeles, Kickasso will customizing Reebok trainers in the new concept store Thursday 11th and Friday 12th July, 6:00 pm till 9:00 pm, to reinvent your favourite Reebok sneakers. There will also be a range of pre-designed Kickasso Reebok silhouettes available, including Reebok Classic Leather, and Club C, retailing 699 aed and 999 aed respectively. The paintings on the shoes were inspired by the artist’s interpretation and perception of the Middle East and Dubai lifestyle.

We caught up with Kickasso to find out more about his work, his most prized sneakers, and what we can expect from his collaboration with Reebok...
Talk us through the Reebok collaboration, and the upcoming store launch...
The collab with Reebok is very fun, vibrant and colourful. I get to meet the people of Dubai and experience the culture for the first time. Hopefully, this leads to more projects with Reebok in the future.
What designs can we expect to see at the Reebok store opening?
Designs will be colourful and limited to 2-3 choices. TBD.
What are the basic tools for a sneaker customizing starter kit?
Paint, airbrush, paintbrushes, canvas.
I noticed that a lot of your designs are asymmetrical, rather than the standard mirrored design we see on most sneakers- why is this?
When it’s hand-painted, it’s hard to make an exact mirrored image. So, I like to be creative and make them differently. If it were massed produced, I wouldn’t mind it mirrored.
If you had to pick one, which Reebok shoe would you choose to customize and how would it look?
If I was given free rein in the Reebok creative lab, I would come up with something that would be completely different. I would mess with everything!
Have you seen the official BAIT X Reebok Instapump Fury mock-ups? What are your thoughts on them?
I like them, I’ve been doing that design since 2015.
If you were to design a mass-market customized sneaker, what brand and silhouette sneaker would you choose?
I’ve actually made my own sneaker, the K_o1. They are priced at $150.
What’s the most expensive sneaker you’ve ever messed with?
I painted several pairs of air mags.
Can you name a “holy grail” sneaker that you would never customize?
No, my art can be added onto anything!
If you weren’t an artist, customizing shoes, what would you be doing for a living?
I would love to coach youth football. I enjoy working with the youth and helping the next generation thrive.
Can you tell us about any noteworthy upcoming artists or designers that you have your eye on?
I’m a big fan of Kai.
