THE WORLD’S LEADING MOTORCYCLE, SURFING AND SKATEBOARDING FESTIVAL.
Wheels + Waves, Biarritz.
Thursday 13th- Saturday 15th June, 2019.
Wheels and Waves returned for its 8th consecutive edition, hosted in Biarritz, France, Thursday 13th - Saturday 15th June 2019.
One of Europe’s iconic motorsports festivals, Wheels and Waves is centered around classic and custom motorcycles, surfing, skateboarding, and the culture that goes with it. The 4-day festival hosts a variety of activities and exhibitions that touchpoint the three pillars of the event, including surf lessons with WSL surfer Jérémy Florès, skate competition ‘Hit The Deck’ and motorcycle races ‘Swank Rally’ and ‘Punks Peak’.
The opening event, ArtRide Block Party, was held at Biarritz skatepark and included live DJ sets and performances, exhibitions and one-of-a-kind motorcycles. Acting as a platform for custom bike builders to show their creations, both Breitling in partnership with Norton, and Indian Motorcyle presented limited edition bikes.
Famous art and film photographer, Richard Aujard, showcased a special photography series dedicated to bikers, in addition to exhibits from local French photographers. A Wheels and Waves inspired graffiti wall designed by artist Tristian Barroso was unveiled at the opening, with Breitling presenting a Premier Wheels and Waves limited edition watch (available in two styles with a special inscription).
On Friday, the Deus Swank Rally Enduro Race, a 6km off-road course for geared motorcycle riders, included a number of participants from pro’s, motorcycle enthusiasts, and Breitling CEO Georges Kern and Guillaume Canet. The official timekeeper of Wheels and Waves, Breitling, followed the main race with a dedicated ride, and the winner received a Breitling watch.
Surfside, Garage Shapers Exhibition was in full swing throughout the weekend, with an hourly surfboard shaping schedule with board displays from local shapers. The annual Wheels and Waves surf contest, Log Invitational took place on Saturday at Milady Beach, championed by Alice Vedrine for the ladies, and Nathan Sadoun for the men’s competition.
